Starting
with the very best fibers, Arachne Yarns are carefully crafted to create truly
unique and beautiful hand spun yarns. Each fiber individually selected from
neighboring farms specializing in creating fibers for hand spinners. It has
been minimally processed. Fibers are then either hand dyed with native plants
and natural dyes, or left in their natural colors. Each yarn is then carefully
designed and hand spun. For this reason, Arachne Yarns appeal to the
discriminating craftsperson by furthering the originality of any piece. Arachne
Yarns are made primarily from protein fibers: wool, mohair, alpaca, llama, yak,
and camel. Occasionally I may find bits of silk, tensel, or some other fiber
that I will add in small quantity.
CARING
FOR ARACHNE YARNS
*Arachne
yarns are all hand dyed and hand spun. No two dye baths will be the same. This
adds to the unique quality of the yarn. It also means that ‘what you see is
what you get’. It is not reproducible. Therefore, make sure you purchase enough
yarn to complete your project, as no more will be available.
*Arachne
yarns are natural fibers and therefore, care must be taken when washing these yarns
and items made from them. All yarns have
been washed at least once after spinning and or dyeing. Items should be
carefully hand washed in warm water with a little wool wash. Do not agitate
while wet. Carefully rinse the item and gently squeeze the water from it. Do
not twist the item. Wrap the item in a towel and gently squeeze out more
moisture. Then carefully lay the item flat to dry. Avoid stretching the item.
*I hope you will give yourself the opportunity to try some of these yarns.
